Knowing and understanding people is like peeling an onion; the amount of layers you will end up with may astound you.
Christianity Today has an article on same-sex marriage and the fact that the supreme court ruled in 2015 that the law of our land must extend marriage and the rights of a married couple to those same-sex couples who choose to do so.
I think the article was well written. It acknowledges that this is the law of the land and we should put our own lives in order rather than dictate to others how we believe they should behave. From a Christian perspective and following the strict teachings of Jesus as quoted below (and many other quotations of His) I think the author should get a gold star.
“Stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgment.” John 7:24 (NIV 1984)
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Matthew 7:1-2 (NIV 1984)“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” Luke 6:37 (NIV 1984)“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” Luke 6:41-42 (NIV 1984)
The subject of same-sex couples being afforded the same courtesies as opposite sex couples makes most evangelicals wince like someone just poked them with an ice pick in the butt. I understand that they believe their stance is how God would have them address the matter I just wonder if they are right? I also wonder how they expected the gay issue would resolve itself with them at the helm.
Evangelicals would have us believe that being gay is a choice, which is why they insist it is a lifestyle. Perhaps someday they will understand the truth, but I don’t think today is that day. Only God can prove me wrong on this.
Let’s talk about the sin of being gay, because it’s the central point and I’m sick and tired of everyone avoiding it and refusing to see how that avoidance is keeping men and women from finding their way to Jesus.
Litmus Test
Kissing
Is it a sin for two women or two men to kiss? Does the answer depend on the type of kiss? A peck on the lips is okay, but French kissing is too much! Please open your bible and tell me where it addresses kissing.
Hand
Holding
When I was a young girl, it was perfectly acceptable for girl friends to hold hands in public, no one thought a thing about it. Is handholding between two men or two women a sin? Please open your bible and tell me where it addresses handholding.
Cuddling
I’m guessing that cuddling in front of the television with your same gender friend is sinful right? Just show me where in the bible it says that, please.
Spooning
If a woman does not wear clothing that enhances the womanly contours of her body is that a sin? If a man uses painted acrylic fingernails to enhance his hands is that sinful? Please point me in the right direction for understanding how God would feel about manner of dress or style!
If a man goes through puberty, but his voice does not drop and he speaks in what others would classify as an effeminate manner, does that count as sinful?
Sodom and Gomorrah
Clobber Clause
Leviticus 18:22 is the infamous “man shall not have sex with another man” rule. It’s real, God said it. I just wonder how Christianity can know this rule that does not apply to ninety-nine percent of God-fearing Christians and yet not be familiar with about sixteen other heterosexual sexual practices that are listed before and after the 18:22. I get that God has standards He wants us to know and understand, but why is this the only standard (other than adultery) that is spoken of in mainstream Christian churches.
Scripture has taught me a lot, but the most important thing I’ve learned is that when people allow someone else to tell them what it says we always end up with half the story … if that much!
What Else Does Leviticus 18 Say?
So, when I found out that God intended sex only for the purpose of procreation, I wondered how the heck we went from procreation to recreation! The easy answer is of course, Satan. Understanding scripture takes some serious reading and contemplating! Check this out.
When was the last time someone taught you this from the pulpit? Ready for it? Leviticus 15:1-12 says that any man who has a bodily discharge, the discharge is unclean. Everything the man touches, sits on, even spits at becomes unclean. There is even a procedure the man must go through before he is considered ceremonial cleansed.
Now surely this must be some other type of discharge, not a seminal discharge, right, because after all that is what the penis likes to do best, right? Verse 16 says when a man had an emission of semen, he must bathe his whole body with water, and he will be unclean till evening. Verse 18 says when a man lies with a woman and there is an emission of semen, both must bathe and will be unclean till evening. Verse 32 sums up the uncleanness of God’s people when exposed to semen or menstruation blood.
Now just when you thought it was safe for you to exit the river let’s look at one more admonition, this is found in Deuteronomy 23:10. It says that if a man has a nocturnal emission (wet dream) he is to go outside the camp and stay there until evening approaches at which time he must bathe and when the sun sets he may reenter the assembly of God’s people. Folks, I didn’t make this stuff up it’s been in the bible since the bible was written, but man, particularly Judeo-Christian man doesn’t want you to know about this. Surely you know that a Judeo-Christian is one who mixes the tenets of the Old Testament with that of the New Testament even though followers of Jesus fall under the new Covenant established by Him. If you think I’m wrong about the new covenant do a bible search with the words, “new covenant.”
